HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 c361W
Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he will refer the footwear retail trade to the Monopolies Commission.

Mr. John Fraser

The Director General of Fair Trading announced on Thursday 5th May 1977 that he had concluded that there did not appear to be a monopoly situation in the supply of footwear. Although he had decided not to make a reference to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission at the present time he would continue to keep developments in the industry under review.

Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he has yet decided to refer the retail footwear trade to the Prices Commission.

Mr. John Fraser

As my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State informed my hon. Friend, we are bearing this suggestion in mind, but we have not yet decided on it.
