HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 c342W
28. Mr. Boscawen

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is his policy toward the level of United Kingdom imports of footwear of all types in the first quarters of 1977 from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.

Mr. Meacher

I am aware that imports from these sources in the first quarter of 1977 have increased by comparison with the same period of last year. I am awaiting a submission from the industry, which I am told will be made very soon, requesting import restraints on non-EEC countries not already covered by such restraints, and I will give this urgent consideration as soon as I receive it.
