HL Deb 05 May 1977 vol 382 c1227WA
Lord HYLTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is true that the National Radiological Protection Board only assess future radiation risks for periods up to 30 years ahead, and if so whether it is considered that adequate protection will be given to future generations.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

The National Radiological Protection Board have a wide range of functions and responsibilities under the Radiological Protection Act 1970. The Board inform me that in assessing future radiation risks they have to take into account varying lengths of time according to particular circumstances, and do not confine themselves to any particular number of years. If the noble Lord wishes to pursue the matter further, the Board would be happy to explain the considerations to him in greater detail.
