§ 10. Mr. Hardyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of children and young persons under 16 years of age who are currently detained or remanded to penal establishments and the number so held at similar dates in 1975 and 1976.
§ Mr. JohnOn 31st March 1977, the latest date for which this information is readily available, there were 842 juveniles aged 14 or 15 remanded or otherwise detained in Prison Department establishments in England and Wales. It is estimated that the corresponding figures for 1975 and 1976 were about 780 and 830 respectively.
