HC Deb 03 May 1977 vol 931 cc111-2W
Mr. Arnold

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many representations he has received since 1st January 1977 regarding the continued imprisonment of Rudolph Hess.

Mr. Judd

In addition to a growing number of personal representations by individual hon. Members of Parliament and by other representative organisations, 62 letters have been addressed to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office about Rudolf Hess since 1st January 1977.

When I summoned the Soviet Ambassador on 29th April to make representations to the Soviet Government in favour of Hess's immediate release, I made clear to the ambassador the strength of public opinion in Britain on this issue.
