HC Deb 03 May 1977 vol 931 cc160-1W
26. Mr. MacGregor

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied with the current levels of employment in the construction industry; and what further measures he proposes.

Mr. Golding

No. But the £100 million programme for dealing with the problems of inner city areas announced on 15th December will help employment in the industry as will the substantial programme also for the regeneration of inner city areas announced on 6th April by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment.

Mr. Loyden

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many unemployed construction workers there are in the Liverpool travel-to-work area.

Mr. Golding

At 10th February, the latest date for which an industrial analysis is available, 11,469 people who last worked in the construction industry were registered as unemployed in the Liverpool travel-to-work area.
