17. Mr. Holland

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he has appointed all the recent trade union nominees as members of the Central Arbitration Committee.

Mr. Harold Walker

No new appointments to the Central Arbitration Committee of members whose experience is as representatives of workers have yet been made.

Mr. Holland

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the names of all members of the Central Arbitration Committee and state in each case whether the member is full time or part time.

The Chairman holds a part-time appointment. The deputy chairmen and members are paid a daily fee.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what proposals he has for further increasing the membership of the Central Arbitration Committee.

I hope to announce the appointment of a number of additional deputy chairmen and members to the Central Arbitration Committee in the near future.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the average amount paid in expenses to each full-time member of the Central Arbitration Committee during the last 12 months for which figures are available.

There are no full-time members of the Central Arbitration Committee.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the average amount paid in expenses to each part-time member of the Central Arbitration Committee during the last 12 months for which figures are available.

The average amount paid in expenses to members of the Central Arbitration Committee for the period 1st April 1976 to 31st March 1977 was £295.87p. This includes the expenses of the Chairman and the Deputy Chairmen as well as those of the members of the Committee.

Mr. Holland

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total attendance fees paid to members of the Central Arbitration Committee other than the Chairman and Deputy Chairman; and how many individual attendances this total remunerates.

The total attendance fees paid to members of the Central Arbitration Committee, other than the Chairman and Deputy Chairman, for the period 1st April 1976 to 31st March 1977 amounted to £6,112. This covered a total of 168 individual attendances.
