HC Deb 03 May 1977 vol 931 cc116-7W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what Government grants have been paid to the Billiards and Snooker Control Council; if he will stop any further grants in the light of the recent affiliation of Rhodesia to the Council; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will list the Government grants paid to snooker via the Sports Council and other bodies during the last three years for which figures are available.

Mr. Denis Howell

Government financial support for snooker is given to the Billiards and Snooker Control Council, as governing body of the sport in this country, by way of grants from the Sports Council. During the last three financial years it received the following grants:

£
1974–5 5,637
1975–6 7,750
1976–7 9,541
I have taken up with the Billiards and Snooker Control Council the reported affiliation of Rhodesia to that council.
