asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what the Government predicted the rate of inflation, measured over the previous 12 months, would be in the months March 1974, April 1975, April 1976 and March 1977; and what the rate actually was at these times.

Mr. Hattersley

I am not aware that any predictions for those specific periods were given. The actual rates of inflation were: 13.5 per cent., 21.7 per cent., 18.9 per cent. and 16.7 per cent. respectively.
