asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the expected dates of completion—

  1. (a) of the striking mechanism of the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster; and
  2. (b) of the work in progress on the West side of Westminster Hall.

I am advised that the quarter chime mechanism of the Great Clock will be repaired by the beginning of May, 1977. The rebuilding of the Westminster Hall Annexe with a redesigned interior, following the bomb damage inflicted in June 1974, will be completed by about October 1977.
