Dr. Vaughan

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) whether his Department has any record of the number of adults who have suffered brain damages following head injuries;

(2) how many persons in 1974, 1975 and 1976, respectively, have received treatment in the special units provided for the care of adults receiving brain damage following head injuries.

The report of the hospital in-patient inquiry gives the number of people over 15 years old treated in hospital for intra-cranial damage and the number of those whose damage was due to road traffic accidents. In 1973, the latest year for which information is available, the figures are as follows:
