HC Deb 28 March 1977 vol 929 cc52-3W
Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many disabled people received payments under the Employment Services Agency's "fares to work" scheme in the last year for which figures are available.

Mr. John Grant

I have been asked to reply.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that some 350 disabled people had payments authorised in respect of the year 1976.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the average weekly payment to disabled people under the Employment Services Agency's "fares to work" scheme in the last year for which figures are available.

Mr. John Grant

I have been asked to reply: I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the total payments in the 12 months ended December 1976 under the fares to work scheme amounted to £70,352. This is equal to an average weekly expenditure of £1,353.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated weekly cost per disabled person of the Employment Services Agency's "fares to work" scheme.

Mr. John Grant

I have been asked to reply.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the average rate of weekly payment in a sample of 100 currently authorised cases is £9.04. The administrative costs of the scheme cannot be calculated without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time.
