asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many taxpayers in the United Kingdom in 1976 had gross incomes from (a) earnings of £13,461 or more a year, £46,010 or more a year, £75,723 or more a year, £126,271 or more a year, £167,938 or more a year, and £220,534 or more a year and (b) investments of £25,256 or more a year, £327,173 or more a year, £579,739 or more a year, £1,009,391 or more a year, £1,363,563 or more a year, and £1,810,634 or more a year; and how many taxpayers in the United Kingdom in 1939 had gross incomes from earnings and from investments, respectively, of £1,000 a year, £2,000 a year, £3,000 a year, £5,000 a year, £7,000 a year and £10,000 a year.

I regret that the Inland Revenue's annual Income Survey for 1975–76 is not yet available, and there is no information available for 1939. Data were collected for 1937–39. The results are published in Tables 20£22 of the 83rd Report of the Board of Inland Revenue.
