§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) if he will list the countries which impose export taxes on commodities and the extent of the levy in each case;
(2) if he will estimate the extent to which export taxes have increased the cost of commodities.
§ Mr. MeacherA number of countries, including many developing countries, impose taxes or levies on certain commodity exports. Disproportionate effort would be required to compile a comprehensive list, and to estimate the effect on prices, which would depend on the nature of the tax and the market situation of the commodities concerned.
