asked the Secretary of State for Defence what types of gun equip the medium and light air defence regiments of the TAVR; what is the average age of each type of the guns in use; when they are to be replaced; and with what type.

The TAVR medium regiments RA are equipped with the 5.5 in. gun which has been in service with the Army since 1942. A replacement is currently under consideration.

The light air defence regiments of the TAVR are equipped with the Bofors L 40/70 gun, which first entered service with the British Army in 1955 and which are on average 20 years old. They are to be replaced, starting later this year, by the Blowpipe missile system.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what types of armoured vehicles equip the reconnaisance regiments of the TAVR; what is the average age of each type; when they are to be replaced; and with what type.

The two reconnaissance regiments of the TAVR are equipped with Saladin and Ferret. On average the Saladins are 13 years old, and the Ferrets 16 years. Both regiments are in the process of being re-equipped with Fox.
