§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will undertake a survey to identify those areas in Wales which suffer from a lack of copper in the soil, with detrimental agricultural consequences.
§ Mr. John MorrisI do not consider a survey necessary in view of the continuing work on this problem. Advisory experience over many years, backed by analyses of soil, herbage and animal samples have built up an extensive picture. Recent surveys by Imperial College and ADAS of stream sediment samples have confirmed areas of low copper in Wales and more intensive studies are being undertaken. An ADAS Advisory paper published last year indicates where copper deficiency may occur in crops in England and Wales. I am arranging for copies to be placed in the Library of the House.
