§ Mrs. Chalkerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many disabled persons, previously aided by one of the Government's schemes for mobility up to the end of 1975, are not eligible for the mobility allowance.
§ Mr. Alfred Morris, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 15th March 1977; Vol. 928, c. 138], gave the following information:
In my reply on 15th March I said it may be estimated that 2,000 people annually might have become new beneficiaries under the pre-1976 vehicle scheme, had the old scheme continued in operation. I now feel that 3,500 may be a better estimate. It is, however, certain that there are already some 40,000 new beneficiaries under the mobility allowance scheme.
