Short-term permits are those for less than 12 months;

Long-term are for 12 months.

The analyses by nationality of issues for 1976 are not yet available. Refusals are not analysed by nationality. Applications are rejected when the conditions of the work permit scheme are not met.

The Government have recognised that a number of citizens of Cyprus who were already in this country as visitors or students could not, in view of the situation in Cyprus, be expected to return there for the time being. We have accordingly been prepared in many cases to vary the conditions of stay of such people to enable them to take temporary employment.
