HC Deb 15 March 1977 vol 928 c140W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress he has made, following representations from the Disablement Income Group, in determining the number of renal dialysis patients who have had their attendance allowances stopped after a kidney transplant and, following failure of the transplant, have had to wait a second six months' qualifying period before their attendance allowances were rewarded: what conclusions he has reached regarding the size of the problem and the circumstances in which it arises; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Since November 1974, when a record of cases was started, there have been six in which a person has had to serve a further six months' qualifying period for attendance allowance following the failure of a kidney transplant. I understand that the Attendance Allowance Board will be considering the problem at its next meeting, and I will write to my hon. Friend as soon as I know its conclusions.
