§ Mr. Geoffrey Finsbergasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what criteria are used for the payment of boarding school fees for the children of United Kingfidom diplomats serving outside the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. TomlinsonDiplomatic Service staff of all grades serving overseas, whose children attend a boarding school in the United Kingdom, are eligible for reimbursement of school fees within a maximum representing the average fee of schools in the relevant category (boys' and girls', senior and junior). The allowance is paid against production of school bills and in respect only of attendance at schools offering the same range of subjects as State day schools. The arrangements are based on recommendations in the report of the Committee on Representational Services Overseas, 1962– 1963, which recognised the special problems that Diplomatic Service staff face in educating their children and regarded the provision of a fully adequate boarding school allowance as essential for them.
