HC Deb 14 March 1977 vol 928 cc74-5W
Mr. Temple-Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Defence, during the years 1974, 1975 and 1976, how many aircraft were sold by RAF Transport Command; of what type those aircraft were; and how much in total was paid for them.

Mr. Wellbeloved

Sales of surplus RAF aircraft are arranged by the Ministry of Defence, not by individual Commands. Sales of aircraft used in, or capable of use in, the RAF transport rôle totalled 69 in the years 1974, 1975 and 1976. The types were: Andover, Argosy, Britannia and Comet. It is not our normal practice to disclose the value of receipts from the sale of surplus equipment.

Mr. Temple-Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Defence, since 1970, how many aircraft formerly operated by Royal Air Force Transport Command have been sold; whether any of them have at any time been hired back; and, if so, for what purpose and at what cost.

Mr. Wellbeloved

86 aircraft used in, or capable of use in, the RAF transport
