HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 c663W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will give a list of the inner and Greater London boroughs that have an education problem and shortage of schools where there is a known large immigrant population; and what action she has taken, or intends taking, to ensure that school building is increased in these areas.

Miss Margaret Jackson

The collection of national education statistics about immigrants was discontinued in 1973. In Inner and Greater London there is no general shortage of school places. There are, however, a small number of extra places needed in Bexley, Bromley, Ealing, Hillingdon, Kingston, Merton, Newham and Richmond. The number of extra places is on a modest scale and will be met by basic need allocations in the 1978–79 programme.
