HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 cc659-60W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he remains satisfied that any increase in the size or weight of lorries permitted on United Kingdom roads would not be in the interests of safety.

Mr. William Rodgers

Safety, as well as environmental, needs will be fully taken into consideration before accepting any increase in lorry size or weight.

Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received regarding the proposed EEC lorry regulations, currently being examined by the European Commission.

Mr. William Rodgers

I have met several environmental groups including the Civic Trust, and have received a substantial number of written comments from other bodies and individuals. There have also been discussions with representatives of the motor manufacturing and road haulage industries.
