HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 c628W
Mr. Welsh

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) if he will list the products which must be labelled with their Latin name when offered for sale by traders; and if he will state the legislative basis for this obligation;

(2) what is the statutory basis of the duty placed on traders to give Latin names to fish on sale in the retail trade; and when this was introduced.

Mr. Strang

Neither the England and Wales food law nor the comparable parallel laws in Scotland and Northern Ireland impose any statutory obligation on traders to give Latin names when selling fish, or, indeed, any other food.
