HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 c629W
Dr. McDonald

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the policy of Her Majesty's Government to the European Commission's proposals to impose a levy of £56 a ton on isosucrose or isoglucose, in view of the employment implications of such a levy.

Mr. Bishop

The Government are opposed to the Commission's proposals in their present form as they would make all production of isoglucose in the Community economically unviable and would lead to the waste of the sums already invested in isoglucose production by some firms and to the loss of the jobs involved.
