HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 c623W
Mr. Shepherd

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the average percentage difference between the market price and the support price for each of the relevant agricultural products grown or produced in the United Kingdom during 1976.

Mr. Bishop

The information given below is the approximate percentage by which the average market price of major agricultural products exceeded the relevant support prices, the designations of which are given in brackets. No figure is given for milk since milk production in 1976 was within the standard quantity and producers were, consequently, paid the guaranteed price. The information is as follows: Wheat (intervention price) 22; Barley (intervention price) 34; Potatoes (guaranteed price) 346; Oilseed rape (intervention price) negligible; sugar beet (United Kingdom minimum beet price) negligible; Fat sheep (guaranteed price) 17; Fat pigs (EEC basic price) 4; Clean fat cattle (target price) 3; Wool (guaranteed price, 1976 clip) 31.
