Mr. Norman Lamont

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether the Hong Kong Government have made a detailed analysis of the British performance in the Hong Kong market as a guide to British firms as to where opportunities for export may occur.

Mr. Luard

I have been asked to reply.

The Hong Kong Government wish to encourage British exports to Hong Kong and, in conjunction with Her Majesty's Government, are currently undertaking a detailed analysis of the opportunities available to British suppliers in the Hong Kong market. I welcome this initiative.

Mr. Norman Lamont

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what positive steps are being taken by the Hong Kong Government to encourage British firms to export to Hong Kong.

Mr. Luard

I have been asked to reply.

In addition to what I have said in my reply to the hon. Member's other Question today, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council are promoting buying missions to the United Kingdom during 1977.
