HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 cc638-9W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he is satisfied that British Leyland Ltd. is taking up the £100 million of public finance already authorised for its investment programme for the purposes envisaged by the Government and the NEB at the time it was authorised.

Mr. Les Huckfield

Yes.

Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if, following the publication of the NEB report to him on the performance and plans of British Leyland Limited, June 1976, he will arrange for the NEB to prepare and make available to hon. Members a further report on the performance of British Leyland to date.

Mr. Les Huckfield

My right hon. Friend intends to make available a further report when a decision on a further tranche of finance is required.

Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if it is his intention to allow the NEB to make available to British Leyland the balance of the £100 million loan, originally designated for the company, of which £25 million has recently been made available, and of which £30 million was approved by the House in August 1976.

Mr. Les Huckfield

I refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friend's statement on 2nd March.

Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry when the NEB gave him notice of its intention in accordance with paragraph 9 of the Industry Act 1975, NEB (Guidelines) Direction 1976, to make available the £25 million loan to British Leyland.

Mr. Les Huckfield

On 8th February 1977.
