HL Deb 10 March 1977 vol 380 c1257WA
The Marquess of LOTHIAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the latest available figure for the annual cost of providing security checks for passengers using British airports, and who bears the cost.

Lord ORAM

The cost of aviation security measures recommended by the Department of Trade under the Protection of Aircraft Act 1973 is estimated at £11.8 million for the current financial year, of which the pre-embarkation screening of passengers accounts for approximately £6.7 million. The Department of Trade reimburses to airlines and airport authorities the costs which they incur in implementing the measures which it recommends.
