HL Deb 09 March 1977 vol 380 c1151WA
Baroness WOOTTON of ABINGER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (1) how many Criminal Bankcruptcy Orders have been made since the Criminal Justice Act 1972 came into force;
  2. (2) how many Community Service Orders were made by either the Crown Court or the magistrates' courts in 1976.

Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH

(1) Criminal bankruptcy orders became available on 1st April 1973. The number of orders that have been made since that date, up to 1st March 1977, is 122. (2) 1975 is the latest year for which figures of community service orders are available from statistics of court proceedings collected centrally. In England and Wales in 1975, 764 persons were given a community service order by the Crown Court and 2,362 by magistrates' courts for a principal offence.
