Mr. Hicks

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many civil servants are employed in liaison with the Scottish Development Agency and the Highlands and Islands Development Board; and what is the cost to the Exchequer.

Mr. Millan

Such liaison occupies most of the time of 12 officials, at an annual salary cost of about £53,000. In addition, a number of other officials are occupied from time to time on agency and board affairs.
