HC Deb 04 March 1977 vol 927 cc329-30W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will publish in the Official Report a detailed list of the lump sum allocations for primary and secondary school buildings for 1976–77 and 1977–78 for the Inner and Greater London areas, respectively; and why, in view of the Government's declared policy of not adversely affecting stress areas, she has reduced the allocation for the London borough of Newham.

Miss Margaret Jackson

To achieve announced cuts in public expenditure while protecting provision for basic need it was necessary to withdraw most of the 1976–77, and all the 1977–78, improvement element of the school building programme. The reductions made in the Newham allocations reflect these decisions.
