HC Deb 04 March 1977 vol 927 cc353-4W
Mr. Pardoe

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking to protect inshore fishermen in Cornwall from poachers within the three-mile limit.

Mr. Bishop

The Cornwall Sea Fisheries Committee is responsible for enforcing its byelaws within three miles: the Committee owns and charters protection vessels for the purpose. In addition, the Home Division of the Royal Navy's Fishery Protection Squadron enforces United Kingdom fisheries regulations within coastal waters. The 1976 Fishery Limits Act increased substantially the penalties for infringements of United Kingdom fisheries regulations and Sea Fisheries Committees' byelaws.
