HC Deb 02 March 1977 vol 927 cc252-4W
Mr. Fry

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will provide an estimate for 1976–77 and a projection for the three-year period ending 1978–79 of the taxation revenue and public road cost figures given on page 112 of the transport policy document and the latest current estimates of the ratios of tax revenue to costs attributed for various types of goods vehicles.

Mr. William Rodgers

Estimates of taxation revenue and public road costs for 1976–77 on the same basis as those given on page 112 of the Transport Policy Consultation Document Vol. 2, are shown in the table below.

Public road costs at estimated outturn prices for the three individual years ending 1978–79 are expected to be approximately:

1976–77 £1,825 million
1977–78 £1,785 million
1978–79 £1,945 million

Taxation revenue for 1976–77, excluding car tax, is expectel to be about £2,770 million. The revenue for 1977–78 and 1978–79 will depend upon Budget decisions which have not yet been taken.
