asked the Secretary of State for Employment when he expects to reach a decision on temporary employment subsidy.

Mr. Golding

I expect to reach decision within the next two months.

Mr. George Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many applications he has received for temporary employment subsidy; how many were approved; and how many jobs were involved from the Northern Region and Mid-Northumberland local employment areas, respectively.

Mr. Golding

As at 25th February, 187 applications in respect of 21,938 workers had been received from firms in the Northern Region. Of these 132 applications covering 11,512 workers had been approved. At the same date, four applications in respect of 221 workers had been received from firms in the Mid-Northumberland local employment area. Of these, three applications covering 167 workers had been approved.
