HC Deb 29 June 1977 vol 934 cc255-6W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what consideration he has given to the latest estimate by the Scottish Council of the £253 million annual deficit by Scotland with the rest of Great Britain; what estimate he has made of the component parts of this deficit; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

I understand that the figure of £253 million is an estimate from the Scottish Input-Output Project of the Scottish deficit on trade in goods and services with the rest of the world—including the rest of the United Kingdom—in 1973. It is made up of a modest surplus on trade with the rest of the world and a large deficit on trade with the rest of the United Kingdom.
