asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he expects to implement changes in the arrangements for the remuneration of members of local authorities in the current year.

Mr. Guy Barnett

Changes in the system of remuneration for members of local authorities would require legislation, and I cannot anticipate the Queen's Speech.
