HC Deb 29 June 1977 vol 934 c260W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the action taken by the Scottish Office to assist the Dailly/Girvan area of South Ayrshire following the decision to close the last remaining colliery; and if he will list the action taken by agencies responsible to him.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

The Girvan/Dailly area has special development area status and thus qualifies for the full range of Government incentives, including the additional measures announced by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Industry on 27th June—[Vol. 934, c. 149–154.] My officials have held a seminar in Ayr to bring the existence of the incentives to the attention of industrialists in South Ayrshire. Action taken by agencies responsible to my right hon. Friend is a matter for the agencies concerned but the hon. Member will be aware that on 27th June the Scottish Development Agency announced the construction of an advance factory in Girvan.
