What are the responsibilities of the Chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality and what is his salary; and what is the budgeted remuneration of other officers of the Commission.

The Chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality is appointed by the Secretary of State from amongst the Commissioners, whose responsibilities are set out in Section 43 of the Race Relations Act 1976; his salary is £12,000 per annum. The estimated annual cost of the approved staff complement (220) of the Commission is £1.3 million.
