HC Deb 23 June 1977 vol 933 cc542-3W
Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what meetings officials of the Training Services Agency have attended in Calderdale concerning the provision of basic operating training in colleges of further education, and if he will make a statement;

(2) what meeting has taken place recent in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, involving officials of the Training Services Agency and officers of the local education authority, regarding the provision of training opportunities in basic operating skills; what proposals were discussed; and what conclusions were reached.

Mr. Golding,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 20th June 1977; Vol. 933, c. 339], gave the following information:

The Manpower Services Commission informs me that a meeting was held at the Percival Whitley College in Halifax on 17th May 1977 between representatives of the Training Services Agency, the local careers service and the Calderdale Education Authority. The possibility of mounting courses under the training opportunities scheme at the college was discussed, including a proposal to set up a course in basic engineering operating skills. It has been agreed that such a course should be set up provided there is sufficient demand from individuals, and it is hoped to start training in September.
