HC Deb 23 June 1977 vol 933 c563W
15. Mr. Carson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what type of vehicle and number and make of weapon was being carried by the three police officers who were killed by the Provisional IRA at Carnend Crossroads, Co. Tyrone, on 2nd June 1977; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

The officers were on routine mobile patrol in a Ford Escort saloon car. They were armed, but it would not be in the interests of security to disclose details of the weapons carried. Two persons have since been charged with murder, and a third person with withholding evidence in connection with the incident.
