§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many letters he has received, and which organisations have made representation to him, regarding his decision to allow Barratt Developments (Chester) Ltd. to build on land off Manion Avenue, Lydiate.

§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) why he upheld the appeal by Barratt Developments (Chester) Ltd. (Local Authority Appeal No. S/2930) to erect 68 houses, bungalows and garages on land off Manion Avenue, Southport Road, 594W Lydiate, against the recommendation of his inspector;
(2) why he overrode the opposition of the Lydiate Parish Council, Sefton Metropolitan Council, Merseyside County Council and his own inspector in allowing Barratt Developments (Chester) Ltd. to build on land off Manion Avenue, Lydiate.
§ Mr. Guy BarnettThe reasons for the decision were given in the Department's letter of 17th May, which my hon. Friend has seen. I cannot elaborate on these reasons, since once my right hon. Friend has given his decision on an appeal he has no further jurisdiction in the matter and cannot discuss the decision taken.
I am sending my hon. Friend copies of the inspector's report and my decision letter.
