§ Sir Bernard Braineasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in the light of the forthcoming constitutional talks on the Gilbert Islands 555W and the Banaban plea for the separation of Ocean Island, in what former dependent territories granted independence since 1947 there have been rebellions by minority groups whose demands for separation before independence were ignored.
§ Mr. LuardI know of no case in British colonial history since 1947 where specific demands for separation at the time of independence were not fully considered, though the wishes of minority groups have not, of course, always been fully satisfied.
