§ Mr. MacFarquharasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) how many registered and unregistered schools of English there are in the United Kingdom;
(2) how many schools of English in the United Kingdom are recognized schools;
(3) how many foreign students have attended schools of English in Great Britain in each of the last 10 years.
§ Mr. OakesSchools for students over the compulsory school age are not required to register with my Department. Sixty-three schools of English are currently recognised as efficient; my Department does not collect statistics about schools which are not recognised. In 1976, the only year for which figures are available, recognised schools of English had 8,624 overseas students.
