HC Deb 23 June 1977 vol 933 cc513-4W
Mr. Tom Ellis

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the price, in pence per pound, received by New Zealand for butter imported into the United Kingdom under Protocol 18.

Mr. Bishop

With the current level of the monetary compensatory amount the guaranteed price for New Zealand butter imported under protocol 18 of the treaty of accession is equivalent to about 37¾p per lb.

Mr. Tom Ellis

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received from the New Zealand Government for an increase in the price of their butter.

Mr. Bishop

The New Zealand Government has asked the European Commission to propose an increase in the cif price of New Zealand butter imported into the United Kingdom under the terms of protocol 18 of the treaty of accession. The New Zealand Prime Minister, the right hon. R. D. Muldoon, discussed this with my right hon. Friend last week in the course of his visit to the United Kingdom.
