HC Deb 21 June 1977 vol 933 cc470-1W
Mr. Frank Maguire

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why three men in Belfast Crumlin Road Prison, Mr. Gerard Murray, Mr. Joe Maguire and Mr. Jim Duffy, have been in a state of total nakedness since early May 1977, are forced to go around the prison in this state, and are punished by three days' solitary confinement every fortnight.

Mr. Concannon

Prison Rules require convicted prisoners to wear prison clothing, and the prisoners concerned are provided with clothing which is always available in their cells. They have chosen to refuse to wear it, or to work. As a result they are in breach of Prison Rules and disciplinary proceedings have been taken against them.
