HC Deb 21 June 1977 vol 933 cc449-50W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what consideration is being given to the future of the certificate in sixth year studies.

Mr. McElhone

In 1974 a committee was appointed under the chairmanship of Principal Dunning, on the recommendation of the Scottish Certificate of Education Examination Board, to consider whether changes were necessary in the arrangements for assessment at the end of S4 and, among other things, to consider whether there were any implications for the SCE Higher Grade and the Certificate of Sixth Year Studies. When its report is published, which is expected to be later this year, my right hon. Friend will seek the advice of the board on whether further study of the position of the Certificate of Sixth Year Studies is required.
