§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will give, for the longest and most convenient stated period of time, the number and types of complaint made by the general public and hon. Members concerning neglect upon the part of Swansea Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre.
§ Mr. HoramOver the last six months my right hon. Friend and I have received 532 letters from hon. Members concerning driver and vehicle licensing. A further 497 letters were sent direct to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre in Swansea. In about half of those cases which contained specific complaints, investigation subsequently revealed that the Centre was not at fault. During the same period the staff at the Centre dealt with 22,783,705 applications of one sort or another.
§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Transport in what circumstances and 421W for what fee the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre at Swansea will provide a member of the public with the name and address of the owner of a vehicle.
§ Mr. HoramWhere the applicant can satisfy the Centre that he has "reasonable cause" for requesting them. The statutory fee is £2.
§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Transport why it took eight months and over 20 letters before Mr. Michael Watts was able to obtain a refund of the 25p he sent to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre at Swansea seeking information on the owner of a car, which information it was not able to supply.
