HC Deb 21 June 1977 vol 933 cc459-60W
Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in the light of the fact that no record has been kept of the number of such letters, on what information his hon. Friend indicated to the House, in the debate on immigration rules on 24th May, that it has been a common experience for wives to write to the Home Office complaining that their husbands left them after getting the requisite stamp in their passports to allow them to reside in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

On the experience of my Department as known and reported to me. In some such cases the matter has been drawn to our attention by hon. Members who have forwarded letters of complaint and inquired about the possibility of removing the husband.
