asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the population of each county in the United Kingdom.

Scotland is made up of local government regions and districts. Northern Ireland is made up of district council areas. The following HMSO publications give all the available estimates of the population at mid-1976 of local government areas in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland respectively:
